On
a quest for a potty downtown (the fifth time in a span of 45
minutes), we ended up in
Cafe Bliss on Fisgard Street. On our way in, I noticed the "Raw
Chocolate" sign on the window. On our way out, I made the
mistake of stopping at the dessert counter to see what they had on
offer. I came away with a chocolate truffle called a Bliss
Kiss and a cranberry walnut cookie (I could easily and
happily bought one of everything they had in the case). This little
cafe prepares only raw, organic foods, and I had not yet tried a raw
cookie, so today was my day for discovery.
I am happy to report that I was not disappointed. The heart-shaped
chocolate was smooth and wonderfully chocolate-y with a hint of
coconut that was not unpleasant to this not-coconut fan. At $2.00
each, they will be an occasional treat that I will be happy to
indulge in. The cookie also had a wonderful flavour. Ginger was a
great addition, the texture was lovely and it was just the right
cookie balance between moist and dry. Sweetened with agave nectar to
the right sweetness (not overly sweet so that it tastes only like
"sweet"), it was a great for mama and would have been a happy,
healthy option for a younger eater.
While my constitution can't handle a lot of raw food, I certainly
plan to return for a snack and can't wait for the next hot day when
I can try the vanilla shake.

fruit, check out their
